Warley Road - Malvern East
We transformed a compact 1930s house in East Malvern into this spacious, warm, light-filled modern home to meet the changing needs of the growing young family that lives there. This stylish residence blends old and new seamlessly, combining contemporary features and high-end finishes with classic detailing.
Respecting the heritage
Maintaining the home's original heritage façade and external period features was crucial to the design. At almost 100 years old, the façade's timber was bowed and needed a lot of bracing. To create a more welcoming feel, we added a bullnose veranda that blends flawlessly with the front of the home. An updated blue timber and stained glass door is a striking entry to the home.
Show-stopping features
While classic and unassuming from the outside, a series of show-stopping features are a pleasant surprise as you enter the home. Stylish contemporary pendant lights throughout the home create a beautiful ambience while illuminating each space perfectly. A superbly crafted timber staircase with a safety glass balustrade leads from the spacious open-plan kitchen/living area to the bedrooms and playroom upstairs. Here, a high cathedral ceiling opens up the space wonderfully.
Seamless indoor/outdoor living
Originally, the backyard was accessible only via a small door, which made it feel closed off from the rest of the home. To overcome this issue, we completely transformed the home's footprint to create a spacious, flexible and contemporary open-plan kitchen and living/dining area. Large bi-fold doors that lead directly to the back deck, outdoor kitchen and garden can be opened completely during warmer months for seamless indoor/outdoor living and entertaining. The new design also enables the kids to play outside in full view of their parents.
