Middle Park
We built a reverse extension and fully renovated this dated Middle Park property. Working alongside the architect, we created an elevated modern space, achieving a beautiful, luxurious and relaxed family house. The finished home is both functional and flexible, enabling the family to enjoy harmonious everyday living, uninterrupted work/study and relaxation.
Creating a beautiful family home
Transforming their early 90s property into a comfortable contemporary family home was high on the client's wish list. The family wanted high-quality finishes and fittings that would meet their needs while standing the test of time. By combining beautiful natural materials, such as stone and warm timber, with a neutral colour palette, we achieved a sophisticated yet cosy and inviting modern home.
Moving into the 21st century
The original home was poorly built, with no insulation. Noise from the busy road and trams was audible throughout the home. In summer, the upstairs felt like a sauna, and the family had to cram into the ground floor on hot days. To overcome these issues and bring the home into the 21st century, we gutted the interior and put in double-glazed windows. This improved the home’s acoustics significantly while enabling natural temperature control.
Versatile family living
The clients wanted a series of flexible spaces for the entire family to use. Downstairs, we created a solid sliding timber wall to separate the kitchen, dining and living area from the TV room. Upstairs, a similar large sliding wall separates the kids’ area.
When closed, the sliding walls divide these larger spaces into private, smaller and cosier spaces that block out sound from the adjacent rooms. These flexible spaces were ideal for the family when working and schooling from home during the Covid lockdown.
